MT3 STL files for artisan keycap designers (2024)

MT3 STL files for artisan keycap designers (1)Ever wanted to create a custom keycap to match an existing MT3 set? Of course you can make a mold out of the original but what if you could work directly on a high resolution 3D model?

Well wait no more, STL for ROW 0 and 6.25u spacebar are here! Use them freely even for commercial products but please give credit. The license is Attribution-ShareAlike just let your customers know your work is based on MT3 profile designed by me and we are good :)

If there’s enough interest I will release more keys and possibly spacebars in every possible size. With 3D printers becoming cheaper and easier to use it’s nice to be able to print that one spacebar size needed for some weird custom keyboard.

Of course I’d love to see what you do with the files. Now go creative!

    Woo! Thank you so much!

Looking forward to playing around with this.

Wow, this is amazing. Curious to see how I can do with my fdm printer ha! This definitely makes me want to get a resin printer that much more…

    Thanks for these!

That’s very nice! R2 would be nice to for us, a small group of 40% ortho users :)

    Hello Matt3o,

what a gracious move to release these files to the public — thank you very much. I was under the impression that Drop owned the profile, so I’m glad you’re able to release these.

I love MT3 for many reasons, but mostly for my nostalgia for my C64 keys. I’d be happy to get more rows, as I am too a newly ortho user.

Thank you for all your work on creating MT3 and being an inspiration to create custom keyboards.

    Have a great day,
    Andreas

what I will love would be some profiles for rendering. I suspect that is a copyright nightmare though

Now THIS is what I’m talking about! Very generous and incredibly awesome. Now we can get the profane-laden keyboard of our fingers’ dreams.

Awesome, looking forward to the rest of the files! Would love to be able to print blanks for non-qwerty use on small split ergo boards. I’ve got a few sets of MT3 already, but only one with colemak-dhm compatibility, so the legends don’t match their usage on most.

Amazing! Astounded at the generosity and encouragement of the creative community that you foster,

    Viva MT3!

    r2 1u for 40s? please?

    OMG a github key for R5 or a StarWars key for R1…. I wish I had a 3D printer

So amazing you’ve released this! A great step in the right direction!

Personally, I’d love to make some artisan gamer keysets (WASD). I’d love R2 and R3 profiles as well, so I can model some cool effects on them, print, then cast them.

No other keycap profile has been the same for me since MT3 was released!

Your MT3 profile is the best. I hope one day I can see more keys in STL, I wish I could create my own designs for small keyboards that don’t need a lot of keycaps.

The 1.5u space bar wouldn’t be bad at all.

Thank you so much for releasing these :)
Yes, would love to have the R5 1u and 2u spacebars. Really love the concave keys too. Thank you so much!

Thank you for publishing this great data.

If you could publish the data of the 6U space bar.
I’m very happy because I’m customizing my HHKB to MX axis.

I have a Camillo and dev/tty/ keyset, but I can’t get the 6U spacebar, so I’m stuck with 1.25U for the left and right keys.

I wish I could 3D print it in metal with the 6U spacebar data.

I will release more spacebars for sure! Stay tuned!

I was going to try to model these, so thank you so much for releasing this! I would love to see r2 and r3 for custom WASD keys!

Thank you for releasing these STLs!!

I needed some short spacebars for split boards that weren’t supported directly by the keycap sets I have, so made a tool to munge the 6.25u into shorter lengths. You can get the tool and several short spacebars (1u, 1.5u, 2u, 2.25u, 2.75u) from https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/70424-mt3-space-bar-keycaps

      that’s great! thanks for sharing!

Thank you for releasing these models. I know you said that more spacebars are on the way, but can you include a 2u spacebar with a POS mount? It is a keycap that uses 2 keys as mounts instead of stabilizers. It would really help me and other ortho users out. So we can stop using DSA 2u POS keys and go full on MT3. Thanks!!

    Hello Matt3o!

I would really love it if you could release all profiles for the different rows, am trying to make some artisan keycaps and would love to make them in the beloved MT3 profiles. Would gladly send you one if you would like! :)

At the moment I can’t release all the models, but I’m trying to convince Drop that it’s not a bad thing. What keys would you need specifically? Maybe contact me privately

  19. Posted by nabs on 2022, January 5 @ 03:39

Is there a way/place to order a full custom set/color? What I really want is the Susuwatari dark-greys but for all of the keycaps!

    1. Posted by matt3o on 2022, January 5 @ 08:43

at the moment that wouldn’t be possible, sorry

  20. Posted by Martin Ledvina on 2022, February 25 @ 00:59

Really good idea, since COLEMAK users have to either print or you blanks.
Automatic printing of custom layouts sounds awesome.

I just tried a print with R0 and it’s sweeeeet. Thank you for releasing this, it makes prototyping so much easier.

Sorry, comments are closed but you can still get in touch with the contact form.
